Troilus and Cressida was entered for the first time in Liber C of the Stationers' Company on February 7, 1603. James Roberts, the printer who entered the title, entered the play as "'Troilus and Cresseda' as yt is acted by my lord Chamberlens Men." A note in the Register allows him to print and publish only when he has "sufficient aucthority." Roberts may never have received sufficient authority. The first quarto edition was published much later, in 1609, by Richard Bonian and Henry Walley, who registered it with the Stationers' Company a second time earlier that same year. This play was printed a second time in 1609, and was also included in the First and Second Folios.
Liber C and the other registers with Shakespeare’s works are still kept by the Stationers’ Company in their archives.
